Dinner with Warren Buffett brings in $1,680,300 for Glide Foundation

Some $400,000 lower than last year, the recently closed auction of a dinner with Warren Buffett sold for $1,680,300
Last year winner at $2,110,100 was Mr. Zhao Danyang, the hedge-fund manager of Pureheart China Growth Investment Fund . We do not know the winner’s identity just yet. If you have any info, please share as comment below.

The heat is on: The Shelby auction we wrote about earlier is live and will end on Dec 12 at 5 PM PST. There is no bid just yet, probably because it requires pre-approval and serious buyers will hold on with their bids until the end. We still believe that the auction will fetch around $500,000. What’s your bet on the winning bid?

The 1968 Shelby EXP500 CSS “Black Hornet” from Carroll Shelby’s personal collection will be on the auction block on December 2. The auction is sponsored by Restoration Hardware and will be hosted by eBay. Most of the proceeding will benefit Carroll Shelby’s Children’s Foundation(tm), a non-profit helping children with heart and kidney disorders.
About the car:
“Created under the direction of racing legend Carroll Shelby, the Shelby EXP500 CSS “Black Hornet” pays tribute to its chrome and green prototype, the Shelby Green Hornet, and is the only approved reproduction. Like its predecessor, the “Black Hornet” sports the famous scoops and stripes, powered by a Cobra Jet 428 V8 engine with a heart-pounding 335 horsepower. The car began life as a vintage 1968 Mustang, and was transformed into an authentic Shelby muscle car worthy of inclusion in the Shelby Worldwide Registry.”
Bidding will start at $100,000 and the auction will be open for bidding from December 2 through 12.
We think that the Shelby auction will fetch $500,000 easily. But because the car is from Carroll Shelby’s personal collection and due its uniqueness, it may very well go over that. We’ll track the auction ongoing and post the results on the 12th.

Which one do you like?
Matthew’s Autos of Houston listed the Ferrari Enzo used in the filming of the movie Redline on eBay. The list price is $1,200,000 and they accept reasonable counter offers. According to the current owner, the Enzo was damaged during the promotion of the movie, but since then, it has been completely restored to the original Ferrari condition.

Winner pays over $2 million for the lunch with Warren Buffett

In our previous post, we speculated whether the Warren Buffett power lunch would go over a million dollars this year. Well, the result is in and it is way over a $1 million. The winning bid is $2,110,100 , which is almost 4 times of what was paid last year for the same auction ($650,000) According to Bloomberg, Zhao Danyang, the hedge-fund manager of Pureheart China Growth Investment Fund (Shenzhen, China) had the winning bid.
100% of proceeds from the auction benefits the Glide Foundation, one of the most effective institutions working to alleviate human suffering and poverty in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. Buffett has described Glide as “maybe the most effective organization I’ve seen for people down on their luck.” – source: eBay auction page.
The dinner will take place at Smith & Wollensky in New York City. According to their website: “Smith & Wollensky is one of the most trafficked restaurants in New York and among the most celebrated steakhouses in the world. Specializing in fresh seafood and lobster and assorted steaks and chops, Smith & Wollensky is well recognized for its healthy portions, seasoned service staff and pop Americana ambience. Will this auction reach $1,000,000 this year? Last year the winning bid was $650,000.
Currently it is pretty low, but I guess bidders wait till the end of the auction to jump in.

One of the 15 S7R Saleen race cars produced is for sale on eBay. Bid starts at $1,000,000 or one can pick it up for $1,500,000 right away.
Here is an S7R in action. I am not sure whether it’s the same car, but it looks identical:

9 days left from the Ferrari F50 auction on eBay. The car is listed for $985,000 and 5 offers were rejected so far. I will update this post after the auction is over with the final going price if any.
According to Wikipedia, only 349 was made, so this is truly a collector car.
