St. Louis Man Gets More Than He Anticipated
The excitement over a $20,000 Missouri Lottery Scratchers prize got the best of St. Louis resident Rorvick Shields.
“I won $20,000 on the left corner (of the ticket), and I didn’t even finished scratching,” said Shields.
Enamored by the sight of a $20,000 prize, Shields called his girlfriend with the news and asked her to take off Tuesday, Aug. 29, so they could go claim the prize at the Lottery’s St. Louis regional office.
“We didn’t even scratch it off anymore. We gave them the ticket, and they scanned it and told us it was $100,000,” said Shields, who hadn’t uncovered an additional $80,000 in prizes on his “Jumbo Cash” ticket.
“I told my girlfriend that this changes the game,” he said.
When he thought he had won $20,000, Shields was looking forward to upgrading his vehicle and saving a bulk of the prize.
“We’re going to make this stretch even longer now,” said Shields.
The St. Louis resident purchased his winning ticket from Phillips 66, 3402 Rider Trail South in Earth City, while on his way home from work on Aug. 26.
“I like the ‘Jumbo Cash’ because it has more games to it for my $5,” said Shield, referring to his winning ticket.
“Jumbo Cash” is a $5 Scratchers ticket that features four games on one ticket. Introduced on June 26, “Jumbo Cash” has more than $8 million in prizes remaining.
